Man charged in investigation into violent right-wing extremism

A man has been charged following a cross-border police investigation into violent right-wing extremism.

The 38-year-old was arrested in Ballynahinch on Tuesday for offences under the Terrorism Act 2000.

He has been charged with possession of articles for use in terrorism, collection of information likely to be of use to terrorists and withholding information which might prevent an act of terrorism.

He is expected to appear before Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

A 40-year-old woman, arrested in Lurgan as part of the same investigation, has been released to be reported to the PPS.

A 48-year-old man, arrested in Kilkeel, has been released following questioning.

A PSNI spokesperson said the investigation continues.

The PSNI has said the investigation is being carried out in conjunction with the Garda in the Republic of Ireland.
