Gardaí are investigating after a pedestrian was killed in a road traffic collision in Cork on Saturday night, 20 September.

The collision, which involved a car and a pedestrian, occurred on the M8 Motorway between junction 11 and junction 12 northbound at Carrigane, Mitchelstown at approximately 9.15pm on Saturday night.

Gardaí have confirmed that the pedestrian, a man aged in his 40s, was fatally injured as a result of the collision. His body has since been removed to the Mortuary at Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will take place in due course.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 20s, was uninjured in the collision.

The M8 Motorway between junction 11 and junction 12 northbound is currently closed pending a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Gardaí have advised that local diversions are in place.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera or dash-cam footage who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
