A call for action has been issued by FREENOW's general manager Danny O' Gorman on Monday January 6.
“We are calling for an urgent increase in funding by the incoming Government. Taxis are an essential part of Ireland's public transport infrastructure, and the WAV Grant Scheme has been hugely important in making the national taxi fleet even more accessible," Mr O' Gorman said.
“People who need wheelchair-accessible taxis are still having difficulty finding a suitable vehicle, and we urge the Government to commit to making additional funding available for the second round of the scheme, which opens for applications in July," Mr O' Gorman added.
FREENOW have said that they "are committed to tackling mobility issues faced by wheelchair users and improving accessibility."

FREENOW have said that last year they "launched our fundraising partnership with IWA to allow FREENOW passengers to round up the cost of their trip to the nearest euro and donate the difference to support their work in Ireland.”
IWA is Ireland's wheelchair association and "is one of Ireland’s leading representative and service delivery organisations for people with physical disabilities. Founded on the belief that everyone should be able to live a life of choice and equality, IWA continues to advocate for and with our members with the lived experience towards an equal society," according to the press release.

With their Round Up to Donate feature, all passengers have the option to round up their fare to the nearest Euro with the extra coming directly to Irish Wheelchair Association.
